Privacy Policy

Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how Fennec Offline Transcription (“Fennec”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use our Android application. By using Fennec, you agree to this policy.

Fennec is an offline speech-to-text app. Your recordings and transcripts stay on your device. Transcription runs locally — we do not operate a cloud service that receives your audio.

Information we collect

Fennec is designed for privacy-first, on-device use.

• We do not require an account.
• We do not upload your recordings, transcripts, or personal content to our servers.
• We do not embed third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
• Audio files, transcripts, custom terms, and app preferences are stored locally on your device.

The only routine network activity is when you explicitly download speech models or diarization packs from official model CDNs, or when Google Play processes a subscription or one-time purchase.

On-device processing

Speech recognition, proofreading rules, and summary templates run entirely on your phone. Processing happens in local app storage and memory. We cannot access your content remotely because it is never transmitted to us.

Android permissions

Fennec requests only permissions needed for stated features:

• Microphone — record audio when you start a session.
• Media projection — optional capture of audio from other apps, with system consent each time.
• Storage / file access — import audio files you select.
• Notifications — show an ongoing recording indicator with a stop action.
• Network — download models when you choose, and reach Google Play for billing.

You can revoke permissions in Android Settings at any time; some features may stop working.

Google Play purchases

Subscriptions and in-app purchases are handled by Google Play. Google may collect payment and device information according to Google’s Privacy Policy. We receive only purchase entitlement signals (for example, whether Pro is active) — not your full payment details.

Data retention & deletion

Your data remains on your device until you delete it. You can remove individual recordings from the home screen, or wipe everything at once in Privacy center → Clear all data. Uninstalling the app removes local app data subject to Android system behavior.

Children’s privacy

Fennec is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will assist with deletion on the device.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the in-app Privacy policy text and, where appropriate, in app release notes. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
